In a post titled Las Vegas – The New Publishing Capital? on the Topix.net blog, you'll find the following:
So what does that have to do with the publishing industry? Well, when I look at Yahoo, I see Vegas. I sign up for free email, read stock quotes and sports scores there for free and maybe even play some fantasy baseball for free. They don’t seem to mind. Why, because as long as when I am there, I do a search or two, all the bills get paid. The layout on these pages may differ, but the one consistency is the ever-present search bar on the top.
Hmm.
What other similarities between Las Vegas Casino/Hotels and Yahoo do you see?

This guy thinks that the non-gaming amenities are loss-leaders only.
That used to be true but that trend is quickly fading.
Both Bellagio and Wynn Las Vegas, the two swankiest hotels in Vegas have about 52/48 splits between non-gaming and gaming revenue (yes, non-gaming is now more).
The hotels actually see this as a great way to boost their profits - charge more for stuff they used to give away or discount substantially!

There's the overuse of purple...
The guy out front passing out free "date" cards to everyone that goes by.
(Well, until security comes by and takes them all from me again.)
I can see it! But Yahoo is sort of the 1960’s Vegas, which was the “hippest and coolest” Vegas:
* Signature Yahoo Martinis served with blinking plastic “ice” cubes. Yahoo fancy ice sculpture. (Mashup Camp Yahoo Party, Feb 2006)
* Burlesque show and GoGo Dancers at PURE (Webmaster World Las Vegas) Party sponsored by … Yahoo. November 2005
* The RAT PACK = Tech Development Team. I know many would agree with me that you Jeremy are the Frank Sinatra of Web 2.0
Jeremy I thought Yahoo! wouldn't steer me wrong but I am yet to get paid after 3 months for my ads :( .
This is one of my many Yahoo blogs http://yahooanswers.blogspot.com/
Is yahoo not paying its affiliates?
