Vegas at Night

Wow, I have a lot of catching up to do. I'm sitting in Terminal A of the Las Vegas airport right now. They have free Wifi here, which is something I wish every airport took seriously. Surprisingly, they had 802.11b and 802.11g networks.

Anyway, I haven't posted for a few days 'cause I was pretty busy with WebmasterWorld PubCon and stuff. I'll wrap that up in a few days, but suffice it so say I had a good time, met lots of great people, had some good food & drink, and even saw a few sights along the way.

The picture you see in this post is one of several I shot tonight from the outdoor observation deck of the Stratosphere. The view up there is incredible. I need to go back again during daylight house sometime.

"They have free Wifi here, which is something I wish every airport took seriously." ..or what? you're not going to fly there? :) More than taking an arrogant stance, I would like to remind you that these things cost and "free" means they are included on the airport tax. This "free" wireless thing is going to be payed by everyone, even if they are looking for the cheapest deal and are fly with a low-cost carrier. It's like "no meal, but WiFi is included". Add that many of the people passing through that airport don't even know what's a Wifi.

So what? Is that supposed to mean I can't have an opinion on the matter?

Have you considered that the costs may greatly outweigh the benefits to the airport?

At the very least it would be nice to have paid access; Cingular/ATT/T-Mobile. What would be even better would be more power outlets.

Yeah, power outlets are in remarkably short supply at most airport terminals. :-(

BWI has free wifi on all the piers. Not ironically, free wifi at the airport might be the only good thing about Baltimore, but hey, you take what you can get.

Actually, as a general rule, wifi has not beenas broadly accepted by businesses in Baltimore. There's some but I usually go to DC. They are much more wifi friendly.

I don't know how I got off track here.

WIFI for an Airport is not very expensive, and hugely helpful to the business community since Airport wait time is often "work downtime". To me the only question is "who should pay"?

Great to meet you at PubCon! I spent the last late night down on Fremont Street, an awesome use of light.

PDX is another one with free Wifi.

Whenever I fly anywhere, a layover in PDX is something I seriously consider over other options. Plus Portland airport is huge and not crowded.

It won't kill you geeks to be away from the Internet once in a while.
