Nothing gets me more jazzed up about work than meeting with someone who really gets it--either right off the bat or during the course of our meeting. Nothing.
I had one of those meetings today. You know the kind. The meeting request comes in and you scratch your head for a minute. Then it dawns on you: this is either going to be a lot of work trying to make someone understand what all this stuff is about, or... it'll be a piece of cake.
Knowing that Murphy often attends such meetings, you do what any reasonable person would: expect the worst. But then, just as things are starting to roll, you realize "damn, this person really gets it. Wow!"
The sad fact is that in almost any company with more than a couple hundred employees, Those Who Get It are few and far between. But I've come to realize that this really is okay. Those Who Get It are often very passionate, smart, driven, and ultimately powerful people. They are difficult to stop. A single one of them can fight the inertia of a whole bunch of the normal folks.
Good things are on the horizon.

Oh man, I love those too. Unfortunately they don't come around that often...or rather I should say they typically don't happen when people who have real decision-making power are in the room.
When I was a wee lad I thought that because you have a job with a large company (IE: yahoo or msn) you just automatically "go it" or "had a clue" because a large company hired that person.
Now that I'm growing up (not really) I’m finding that people don't ever "get it" or "have a clue" the just acknowledge you and return to their desk to fake it just enough to attend the next meeting
It’s just too bad
yeah - me too. i used to think that way as well.
i worked a few years ago for a certain very large American computer company, and the amount of people who didnt have a clue was simply astonishing.
Well ain't you all just the most "gettin' it" folks ever! Give yerselves another big ol' pat on the back for being so dang "with it"!
I certainly have a clue. Heck I go around with a t-shirt like this and the pointy-headed management types have never ever gotten it.
the thing about "getting it" is that everybody has their own idea of what it means to "get it." for every ten people you think "don't get it," nine of them are walking away thinking that you "just don't get it." the other guy probably doesn't get much of anything.
At least, with 200 employees you're probably only 2 or 3 degrees of separation from those who "get it"
If you find that most people don't get it, why don't you find out what works and adjust your method of delivery so they do get it.
