Quicktime is a *part* of the system. That's why you can access it from let's say Cocoa. It's easy to add into your own apps. According to the chart it's like you upgraded the graphics process system (Quartz) which sounds like a major update...

But yes--pain in the butt. I usually bunch upgrades together so I can just restart once.

I think AAC in Quicktime instead of iTunes is great. Now anyone can write a program that uses AAC *really* easily. Also, as mentioned--with no fees.
