Yahoo Messenger Sucks

You're being a bit rough on YIM. It's my preferred messenger and has been for years. It's stable on my computers... I've never thought of it as being unstable before!

The best part of YIM is the Webcam stuff. I tried to walk my Mom through a variety of web conferencing software and they all SUCKED. Netmeeting is the worst of the bunch (obviously). I finally found Yahoo's integrated webcam, had my mom start YIM, clicked share webcam and poof, my Mom's seeing images of her grandson. She was thrilled as am I... and this is over 28.8 connection she has in New Hampshire.

Remember the competition when it comes to IM: AOL (boring, but stable), MSN (a plague upon us all), ICQ (god help you) or maybe Jabber (if you've got a degree in CS to set it up). I have to say I prefer YIM... out of the bunch.

I'm with Z on this one. YIM sucks moose-balls. I've been in the process over the last few weeks of trying to convince the last 6-7 people in my YIM buddy list to get AIM accounts, because I'm about ready to toss YIM.

You of course mean the folks who moonlight on Unix YIM, right?

I was so disgusted this a.m. that I couldn't get into my email that I just typed Yahoo Sucks into my Google site and lo and behold found a world of people who agree with me. Whenever I have had a problem it took me about 15 minutes to find a way to email those people and then they NEVER came back with an answer or if they did, the answer was never to the question I asked. They are idiots. "Yahoo Experts" my ass. Even though I have three email accounts, I have always given out only the Yahoo one to people other than my friends and as a result get over 100 bulk mail a day and at least 35 in my inbox; only about 6 of which are legit. I faithfully foreward those to uce@ftc.gov which is sanctioned by gov. in their aim to get rid of spam. Thus I am reluctant to rid myself of yahoo as I suspect all that garbage will then come to my other accounts as well as yahoo. Thanks for listening. Janet

I think yahoo or someone through yahoo, makes my computer slowly die. Everytime I load in yahoo messenger, my files and programs slowly get corrupted, and my whole computer performance suffers and slows down. Anyone else getting this problem????

I hate YIM cause all my friends have AOL and AIM and i cant talk to them at all. The only person i can talk to is the Yahoo helper(a robot)! I am soooo mad! RRR. I have Yahoo DSL high speed internet and that rocks ! it is done in the blink of an eye.

Yahoo majorly sucks...they don't let anyone know when there updating and your constantly smacking your nuts around when they have problems...what happened to letting people know. I prefer GAIM and linux ..damn people get a clue.

yahoo is certainly suckin i was locked out of my messenger for 18 hours because of there security . noone to get my messenger back up e mailed them and they did not answer me question i had mailed the always back to the same o'le page to fill out. i had to just sit and wait .my grip is why don't this happen on other messengers .it don't. why is yahoo so relieable they say they don't have any problem on there computers well thats garbage.it happens to 90%of the folks who use yahoo. don't let that fool ya..they don't know where to turn in this day and time or it would bee fixed by now .i tink it's because the ones suppoed to fix it is not givin a darn about this.they simply don't care as long as their pay check gets in their hands on friday..forgat the people who made yahoo.it customers what a big let down. yahoo get your people refreshed,get ride of the dead wait.send us someone who cares.fix your mistakes please..i very tired of dropped yahoo messenger locked out.

There was a time when I enjoyed Geocities. They had just gotten really good... Yahoo bought them out and the geocities FTP got shut down... BUMMER. Then they started charging for everything left and right... Not to mention that stupid bar thing they added. Some kind of java I'm told. I liked the banner ad better, at least I could easily block it... See me rambling on. Yahoo just pisses me off. Messenger keeps crashing my Trillian program. I run it simply on the account that MSN Messenger is EVIL and ICQ just seems to be completely a nuisance with all it's ads and long load time. AOL Messenger is ok if one wants to wait through loading and more ads... all those DAMNED ads! If I was a higher up, I'd fire all those yahoo's and give yahoo stuff back to who started it in the first place.

I see on Yahoo that it crashes once I try to log in. Looks in this that yahoo has forced Mac users to only be on OS X now. Screw those with the computer that runs on anything less. See this article to see what they did.

my webcam use to work with yahoo, then all of a sudden it didnt, then my mic stopped working as well. Now I got the mic back working but only in chatrooms and even then it still says "unable to initialize your computers mixer". And I cant get the cam to work again, I'm a computer geek and I've tried everything I know, even checked out the all the forms and tried yahoo's helper, tsk, some help, damn bot didnt know whats what, I'm fet up with trying to make it work and telling all my contacts if they want to video confrence to use msn.

I have only 1 problem with YIM: it times out every 5 minutes and reboots itself. While it's shutting down and restarting (and resetting itself back to its default settings in its preferences), it also causes my browser page to 'tilt' until YIM is rebooted. It's almost like YIM is sucking up all your info and has to unload it to the mothership every 5 min. or so. I know it isn't, but it is bothersome when it shuts off in the middle of a chat and then restarts. Any ideas?

I hate just about all client software, but the only one I can use with a minimum amount of disgust is AIM. Of course, I hack it up a bit to get rid of the ads and other useless things. For the casual user who doesn't want such an eyesore, you ought to do a search for DeadAim (commercial), MiddleMan (Free), or something similar.

dude yahoo sucks major balls i have always had trouble with its messenger.. aside from the messenger tho its not that bad .. the chat rooms are better them msn and aol.. and aol has so many spam ads and pop ups and spyware its not funny.. yahoo dont have that nor msn.. but i prefer msn over anything and even then they all suck in general.. i say boycott yahoo.. or someone pull the plug themselves.. i am a hacker and have been hacking yahoo for many years.. and im not afraid to speak my mind about it.. im anti-yahoo .. simply put!

Man - I tell ya what - YIM SUCKS!!! I have had problems with messages not being delivered, I CONSTANTLY have problems with the cam not working right. By far my biggest complaint is that - the cam. It is slow, it often just freezes, sometimes you might get a frame update when you move the mouse over it (why????), but often it won't even do that. Sometimes you get old frames that were sent hours ago, man - YIM blows chunks when it comes to webcam stuff. I found that most of my YIM lockups/crashes are because of some failing webcam window. Now they come out with a NEW YIM with built-in voice. WOOHOO - yeah right - I use Skype for that. To Yahoo I would say: FIX WHAT'S BROKE FIRST instead of adding in other stuff.... The latest MSN Messenger is MUCH better with webcam stuff but it has its own problems (like not being able to full-screen someone's cam, or the lack of being able to remote-start someone's cam). I've come to the conclusion that for myself, there is not one good IM program out there.

I'm having problems too, I keep having to reinstall after it every use, and not only that is just plain giving up the ghost and now I contantly get a notice that said that it doesn't want to work and if I want to send an error repoert cus it is causing errors >__>;

Yahoo doesn't suck until you learn what problems are from your personnel ignorance and then finding Yahoo does suck. They allow for a free service to corrupt the mind with, for example, Page Builder being a pain in the as I was saying there own toolbar blocks the Page Builder program. I do not have all the same problems since I now know how to reformat but Yahoo freezes my brain when simple curiosity, 360, corrupts my whole intentions. I have learned to work with Yahoo and I appreciate their service but WOW what an experience.

Yahoo definitely sucks.
I have tried and tried to log into my YIM for about an hour now, most of the time it tells me there is a sign in problem, but then it will sign in with no problems with exactly the same details. Then after about 2 minutes it kicks me out of the system. I have decided it would be faster to get a pen and paper and mail any messages than to use yahoo instant messenger.

I have been using YIM for many years. I still like it very much but recently I have found that the cam is so slow. It can be speedy for a few seconds, then hang for a while and slow down tremendously. This is really frustrating when i chat with my friends on cam. I checked with my ISP but they told me that my connection in good condition. I scanned my pc for so many times. The problem is still there.Is anybody facing the same problem lately ?

Yahoo messenger does suck.
I upgrade the version and I find out that roughly 60% of the 800 pixel tall "contact list" window is actually used to display my contact list.
Ads, toolbars I didnt ask for, search bars I didnt exactly pray for.

I am pretty sure someone would point out something along the lines .... - "you can switch those off from Tools > Options ..., dude" ....... but hey i didnt ask for it in the first place. I just asked for a goddamn messenger.

Nor did I ask for the Yahoo toolbar in my browser. Yahoo is just taking the MSN path to getting shunned.

Anyway - Im thankful I spent a few hours exploring.

Reasons Yahoo! Sucks!!!

I discovered Yahoo some three years ago and got literally HOOKED. I really thought it was cool. My Yahoo, Yahoo Music, Messenger, 360, and email were the coolest ideas ever. Everything worked great, and if I had googled "Yahoo Sucks" back then I would've probably been surprised at people's comments because I was a certified Yahoo fan back then. My problems started when Yahoo upgraded. Suddenly I couldn't open attachments, I couldn't attach attachments, senders couldn't send me attachments. My webcam stopped working, my microphone stopped working, my messenger would crash and sign in, crash and sign in, crash and just stopped. I thought I would get help with Q&A but it turned out to be Yahoo's way of dodging responsibility. Leaving users to sort out their own crap. It all boils down to careless programing. All the ideas are great but they don't seem to be testing their updates NOR are they listening to peoples gripes. Loyal fans who are let down everyday. And worse, after finally googling "yahoo sucks" i stumble upon this article about Yahoo being responsible for giving information to chinese authorities leading to individuals being aprehended and then locked up in god-knows-what-happens-in-there communist prison. THIS definitely makes Yahoo Suck. I mean, everything out there probably has a "Suck" shrine on the net, Google sucks, Ipod sucks, Hotmail sucks, sure, everything can suck because we can't please everybody. However, Yahoo's involvement in the fate of chinese users is something that taints America's name and gives the world amo for their perceived American hypocrisy. Let's face it, yahoo IS american, and America is supposedly anti-communism, anti-chinese, and pro freedom of speech, and freedom of expression, ok...not too good on the last bits, BUT, for sure, America will stand up against china's blatant disregard for human rights. If an AMERICAN entity ends up helping china's violation of human rights I think the American government and American users collectively should react harshly against Yahoo because THIS tops off all "suckiness" out there. I mean...this is BEYOND crappy progamming...this is putting people in god-knows-what-happens-in-there type jails and totally contradicts FUNDAMENTAL american values. UN-AMERICAN! They deserve to be sued because of this.

I'm sure the yahoo people use google to search the phrase Yahoo Sucks (or maybe they don't! LOL) but it doesn't take much for the staff to find out HOW they should improve...IF that is exactly what they intend to do. And yet they DON'T, which makes me DOUBT that this is on their top priority.

Have been using the Yahoo voice messenger over the last 2 weeks. The messenger is a disaster. for eg., Atleast 4 times of the 10 or so times I reported a problem, the message would bounce back. I have not had single complete conversation, either it would disconnect or there would be continuous echo or static. How can one provide this service and expect to be a player in this market.

The service requires a fundamental re-design. I paid for the service, is there some way to get my money back?

Here's my gripes about Yahoo Messenger.

GRIPE #1:
At work I have a very fast internet connection. So I keep the habit of doing all my downloads there and then installing stuff on my home pc, where I only have a measly dialup.

Thing is, with YIM you first download a small fart of a program which then later asks you to do a 10 meg or so download off the PC you're running this from. ARGHHH! Why can't you guys provide a single-download install like the rest of the world does?

GRIPE #2:
Memory usage. Need I say more? Why the hell does an instant messaging program need to occupy 60 meg of ram when I don't use any plugins at all? Why?

SOLUTION:
I've tried the whole shebang of messengers. I've also built a couple of my own that I never forwarded to the general public (don't worry, you didn't miss anything great).
My next favourite is becoming Google Talk. Weighing in at 1.5MB download and a no-bells-n-whistles minimalistic interface, it's what the app is meant to be.

Yahoo My Ass , It Sucks Super Big Time Been installing an deleting the dam thing all day.The webcam wont work but One time. Installed an un-Installed all the webcam drivers about a thousand time too..FORGET emailing there Suck Ass Help section. You may hear from them In the Next Ice Age..

OMG, i have installed and uninstalled Messenger like 10 times, it can't seem to stay running for more than 15 minutes at a time, it SUKS BIG TIME, never used to have a problem with it but recently it has become so unstable i can't take it anymore, I give up, will be trying something else.

The only time i could chat on yahoo was with an old Dell with windows 98 thats how far yahoo is out dated..My new computer forget it, so that`s what i did with Yahoo forgot them... I say Yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! your gone for good bitch!!!!!

First of all, YIM is a "free" program so quit your bitchin'. Yahoo progressively is sending more banner ads so this is clogging up the whole process. There is a prog that blocks the ads. If you do NOT like YIM, then again stop bitching about it and get Yahelite or another alternate chat program. Yahelite is also taking forever to load because Yahoo is bombarding you with banner ads. That and the servers Yahoo use is FREE BSD, duh. What were you expecting for free? And for those, like me, who are getting deluged with SPAM from a Yahoo email address. Try an ID that begins with a number or letter X or Z. Since creating a new Yahoo S/N and email addy, I had 1 SPAM message in 2 weeks. As for Yahoo chat prog slowing down your computer. Dude, I've had Yahoo chat on my box, WIN98 since 1999 and it never slowed it down.

I cannot believe that its 2007 and this piece of crap still has like 9 billion bugs in it. its filled with bots , there are like 500 different booters so anyone can easily boot anyone they want off the rooms and some even make your computer restart . the rooms never work , people always get stupid messages like " signing in took longer than expected " and you gotta try different times of the day to be able to join a room . the voice chat doesnt work for many people even if they have their settings right . the webcam is all glitchy and plays like 1 frame per 3 seconds . how f'in hard can it be in this day and age to solve these stupid problems ? they are lazy and unproffesional at yahoo, im glad they are losing to google and other companys now. wait till myspace offers voice chat in its chatrooms , and yahoo will become obsolete altogether

I am currently looking for a replacement messenger and no I will not use aim , no AOl will ever enter my any of my machines . I have a cascading yahoo error list , the ads constantly remove my chat cursor which pisses me off , it locks up constantly and when i try to find a old ver they spam with update message constantly . I have managed to gut part of this lastest messenenger , rename updater. add a commandline in the registry to block all of them addons and disable the spying active-X IE plugins that run to spy on us all thats not even needed in there . so far no crash yet ...

God, yahoo sucks so much. Its full of glitches, and its extremely confusing. whats that whole 360 thing? man, I hope they go bankrupt

This is day number 2 that I have been unable to login to my yahoo email accounts. Gee, I wonder if they'll reimburse me for the days I had no service???

What a bunch of idiots. Are they running yahoo out of some 14 year old kid's bedroom closet? Or maybe they're too busy playing WOW to pay attention to running things.

The "first tier" techs are a bunch of dunderheads. "Try typing www.att.yahoo.com into the address bar." DUH! Gee, why didn't I think of that?!

I have used YIM for years and there only ever seems to be a problem when Ive been given a virus or some other program has uninstalled a file that yahoo needs by mistake... a simple reinstall usually fixes it and away i go again. Seems most of you people have probably not got enough protection on your computers with the amount of problems your having.
PROTECT YOUR PC... BACKUP YOUR DATA... MAKE SURE YOU DO IT ON AN EXTERNAL PLACE THAT YOU ONLY CONNECT TO THE PC TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS LIKE AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE OR A PC THATS NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET ITSELF.

yeah ... keep complaining instead of making some hotfix-es :P

This is not a comment, but I hoped you could help me as I do not know whom to ask.

I have a laptop fromwork, a DELL, and IT did something to it today. When I came home to work from my home office, there was a microphone on my toolbar and it stated MICROPHONE ON. I have never seen this before and feel paranoid that they want to listen to my conversations. Is that even possible, do you know? Would I have to be on my messenger phone for them to hear me, or is it always on?

Any information would surely help.

Ok guys first and formost yahoo is a free chat and messenger program...The introduction of banners and bots is to "keep it free" they make money off the banners when you click...Except if you've been around long enough you should know by now that this is a ploy to move messenger to a paid service to "fix" all these problems by ordering it...Its coming... free messenger is going to the pay per service dogs....why do you think yahoo att msn skype paltalk are all integrating their services so you can message your contacts through any of the messengers...This stuff has always been the way of it...They aren't making money off you really...not like they should be its free and we aren't clicking the banners we are blocking them and the bots so they are losing.....so how better to get you to pay for service eventually than to put you through hell with their own program then when the time is right say to you hey pay for service and these problems will go away and we will have techs to help fix any issues you have...Most of the problems with cam im reading on here can be solved by....first uninstalling the cam uninstalling messenger dumping your temp files history and cookies turning off your anti virus and firewall programs and your system restore then going to a free virus scan site like trendmicro and scanning your system and using a spyware remover....one other thing you should know is IE 7 is very anti chat music and games....the phishing filter is a pain in games so are your pop up blockers.....add yahoo to them as a trusted sites and add them to your firewall especially...if someone does have a hold of your messenger somehow log into yahoo on the main page in IE without messenger running and change your password often...do it this time without messenger installed once you've made sure your computer is spyware free and virus free....edit your registry to remove all instances of yahoo....the toolbars etc...then reinstall your cam first then yahoo...I will also tell you to go to your computer manufacturer site update all your stuff on your computer and flash your bios....this goes for your cam software keyboards sound cards videocards and drivers and your windows updating too... after awhile information is corrupted especially after unexpected shut downs and crashes...sound and video especially get screwy...it takes patience and maintenance to keep your programs running smoothly...Don't bitch be on top of it...keep it up too don't just start and think you are just gonna go because eventually you wont.....need help ask i'll help you...message me in yahoo lol or email me there i'll be happy to figure out why your not running smoothly...atleast until you learn how to do it yourself that is....its very obvious that you don't at the moment.

Yahoo messenger and Macs do not mix. My friend and I both installed on our Mac 10.4's and he lost all internet settings and my computer locked up every time I opened a second program. Even if messenger wasnt even being used. It damn near cost me a major editing job. I will never touch it again. And there is nowhere to complain about it where anyone can see it. Yahoo is got the buzz locked up.

yahoo is the worst thing i have ever used online im in the us army in balad iraq and all i wanna do is talk to my wife and kids back home but yahoo is nothing but frustration i hope they go out of busness

Yahoo messenger still sucks. Skype is miles ahead of it in video/voice calls. I have a fiancee overseas and I have used Yahoo messenger with her on several different computers and the video constantly stalls out for one of us and not the other. Frequently when I close a video window is locks Yahoo up and I have to run task manager to force it off to restart it. I am fed up with it... it is completely junk. MSN messenger does video much better but Skype is still much better than it is.

Oh and too the people that want to say "it is a free program so quit complaining" People give Yahoo MILLIONS and MILLIONS of dollars for advertising. At least they could provide a good stable program for people to use... especially since it shows banner ads for some of the advertisers that are paying to be there. How would you think CBS or ABC or NBC would stay in business if they were as crap as Yahoo Messenger?

so what if it is free. is that a legit reason to provide crappy service. lot's of things in life are free and most people know and appreciate them--because they are good. so you who think that just because it's free that it does not have to be good---let me ask u this. i have a car and u can have it for free-do u want me to include the motor and the wheels--because without the motor and the wheels i would be giving u CRAP. do u follow? so if u give something for free then pls let it also have some value and not make life more difficult. i do appreciate yahoo but it also crashes on me at the worst times and takes away the pleasure of using it. so i say if it is free then also make it free of problems

I was thinking about re-registering with Yahoo messenger and chatting again, but after reading all the recent comments here and doing some other research, I see that Yahoo Messenger is still the same piece of crap it turned into a few years ago. Why would I want to go into a room that's primarily full of bots. A room where half the "real" people had logged out minutes to hours ago, where multiple names are listed for the same person, where booters and kick you off, etc... etc.... Ok people, what's a good chat program? Oh yeah.. and by the way... Yahoo Messenger Product Manager... whoever you are... YOU SUCK!

I dont think Yahoo Messenger is the best. Im using it since 2001. THe bad thing about Yahoo Messenger is, its email which cannot be forwarded to be read on other email account. If you want the feature to be enabled, you have to purchase / upgrade to yahoo mail PLUS. suck right ? You can have free email with live messenger, Google mail. Why we need to pay for Yahoo Mail to get the full feature? So people! change! Use Gmail as it is the fastest mail and messenger (gtalk).
