Since it has been announced internally at work, I figure it's safe to let the few other people who might care know. In the relatively near future, I'll be leaving Y! Finance and moving to Y! Search. So, no--I'm not leaving Yahoo! I'm just going to be working on different problems with different people.

It should be quite an interesting new role.

Congrats Man! Not to be arrogant or anything but if you ever have search questions (and I don't know how much you are working on is truly search stuff, stemming algorithms, query parsers and such), feel free to send them over. I've spent 15 years dealing with search at a pretty low level and I know my way around the hard core stuff pretty well.

I'd also strongly recommend that you get the ACM SIGIR proceedings for the past few years and learn from them. I'd also strongly encourage you to not fall in love the the "advanced search" stuff like Bayesian networks, etc. They pretty much don't scale.

Best of luck, we're all rooting for you!

I would strongly encourage myself to a) read comments before posting them and b) to not use "strongly encourage".

Congratulations. I'd love to see Google get some real competition -- I hope that Yahoo provides it.

Good luck,
