I bet you didn't know how easy it is to get your My Yahoo! subscriptions as an OPML file.

If you're a My Yahoo! user, point your browser to this URL:
http://api2.my.yahoo.com/2.0/content/getsubs
and you'll be greeted by an OPML representation of your subscriptions.

The catch is that you need to be already logged in--that is, you need a valid Yahoo! cookie for it to work. If you're already using My Yahoo! regularly, that's a non-issue. When a more web services friendly login/auth API appears someday, you'll be able to automate the process to backup or sync your subs with a blogroll, etc.

Enjoy.

Oh joy, another huge square peg shoved into one of Winer's round holes. You know, not EVERYTHING benefits from being in outline format.

Of course not everything benefits from an outline format; however, OPML is the default import/export format of 99% of all aggregators and, therefore, useful.

Jeremy, My Yahoo! doesn't allow importing OPML files, does it?

If it was exposed without the login stuff it'd be a lot easier for users to search within their feeds on Feedster, as you can currently do with any online OPML file (and there's a shortcut for Bloglines).

Well, I have three pages, and this is the OPML that I get. I would consider this pretty useless. :(

I used to use Omea Reader, but my.yahoo.com is more convenient. The only problem? I can't import OPML into my.yahoo.com -- I tried using the beta RSS module, but it says it's unavailable.

I hope this feature is going to come back.

awesome! I found this in the search results via My Web 2.0, I've been looking for a way to export my Y! to OPML for a while now, thanks a million!

Frustratingly the opml export link in your original post above seems to have stopped working - is there a new one which works??? Thanks!

(moan: it's very frutrating that in the My Yahoo help pages they suggest using the export opml feature commonly found in other feed readers to import friends' feeds into My Yahoo to help you get started. This is precisely what I want to do but in reverse, yet Yahoo make it impossible for me to do so...)

I don't know what y'all's problem was but the link above works beautifully for me.. Right click the link, "save as" to your desktop, go back to Google Reader, import the file, boom there you go.

At least it worked for me with FireFox. :-D

Despite the earlier comments that claim it doesn't work, it worked for me today. However, the view from Firefox (below) doesn't show the list of blog subscriptions. Instead you need to save it or view the source.

I tried exporting from Yahoo using the link, saving the output OPML, and then importing into Google. I got an error when importing, so after reading the comments here I went back via Firefox, viewed source, and saved the source to an OPML file. That seemed to work. I was able to transfer my MyYahoo info into Google Reader and can now be rid of MyYahoo. Woo Hoo! :)
