Brian Cantoni, a fellow Yahoo, has written a bookmarklet for IE and Firefox that makes Yahoo! Local URLs a bit more e-mail friendly (meaning it strips the cruft).

Excellent. It'd be great if we can do that on the server side, but this is a good start.

Can you talk a little about why there is so much cruft on Yahoo?

I've had several occasions where It wouldn't allow me to login (iirc, because of rc.yahoo.com not responding) and it's frustrating at times.

Why not just use tinyurl (http://tinyurl.com/). It already has an IE bookmarkelt and a Firefox extension (http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/tinyurl) and most importantly, it works with ANY url, not just Yahoo Local.
