I decided to download the 2.4.24 kernel to build on my Linux desktop at work.
jzawodn@autopsy:~/src/linux$ wget ... --17:48:45-- http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/... => `linux-2.4.24.tar.bz2' Resolving www.kernel.org... done. So much for running to the restroom while it downloads, huh?
Okay, three cheers for peering at PAIX!

Aw, crap! Now I've got to work late again so's I can afford the extra therapy for my tech envy that that post just set off.
what kind of name is "autopsy"?
shouldn't your machine be named after a disease?
We ran out of diseases.
My laptop is named "foobar" when it's on the Yahoo network. Of course, I named it myself. :-)
Once, after dropping a gig card into a machine in our cage at GlobalCenter (many moons ago), I got like 14 or 15MB/s. But back then, the kernels were <30MB, so I didn't think it was accurate.
Whoops, silly me, forgot to escape the <.
...back then, kernels were less than 30MB, so I didn't really think it was an accurate speed.

Hrm, you win.
Unrelated..
is it just me or are there too many Justin's? :P
haha, i did not think so till i met the internet.. i know like only one other person who is named justin in real life.
hey, justin.. what type of net connection do you have?
Time to turn the comments into a mockery? :P Sorry "Zawodny", your now a forum! :P
Well, Justin, that's actually a GigE line to WilTel :P
Actually, best I ever got was from the Argonne National Library ftp server (mysql mirror). I was seeing 11MB/s...so my 40MB download took just under four seconds.
I'm with ya--sometimes technology is a baaad thing.
with a connection as fast as that , downloading pr0n must get boring after a while.
