If you're looking for an IT job that won't likely be subject to cutbacks anytime soon, I have a suggestion. Go work at Microsoft. In the group that writes their security bulletins and advisories. That's gotta be a pretty secure job nowadays, huh?

Oxymorons...

Job security (in the IT field) is like..

Corporate ethics,
family planning,
Military Intelligence,
Oil and Vinegar..

somethings just never mix well..

I think it would be quite a lot of work. Any other IT secure jobs with less work?

As for the redhat comment, these are bug fixes. Not massive, easily exploitable, linger-forever, been around for months, virus-infecting holes.

Job security (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Job_security) depends on our competitive advantage, technology, financial markets, taxes, trade agreements, productivity and efficiency with which we produce things. Today we are in a state where our competitive advantage is eroding because of globalization and internet, and so is our job security. Job Brodkin's article also discusses this. http://www.networkworld.com/newsletters/edu/2008/033108ed1.html
