I've decided to finally take advantage of the fact that I live near wine country. I got a bottle of Merlot from St. Supery (one of my favorite vineyards to visit in Napa) at the store a week or so ago. I've been having a glass with dinner at night. It's pretty good. They make a truely excellent desert wine too.
Yesterday I picked up a Cabernet Sauvingnon from Hess Vineyards. Amusingly, I drank a glass with a hamburger tonight. I don't know if that makes me a bad person, but I'm enjoying tasting a variety of wines. I like this one too.

Yeah, wineries are way fun. Here are some of my lesser-known favorites:
Your Backyard (SC Mountains): Ridge (!!!!), Picchetti, David Bruce (Pinot), Bonny Doon
Russian River Valley area (my favorite region): Martinelli (!!!!), Meeker (Four Kings blend, all reds), Rosenblum (in Alemeda, Zins), David Coffaro, Rochioli (!!!)
Monterey region: Robert Talbott, Bernardus, Chateau Julien, Cloninger, Paraiso Springs
Sonoma Valley: Landmark (spring for the Damaris Chard taste), Matanzas Creek (interesting)
Livermore Valley: Murietta's Well, White Crane (Late harvest Zin!), Elliston
Hecker Pass (yes, Gilroy!): Sarah's Vineyard (very nice lady), Solis (Sangiovese), Kirigan, Hecker Pass Winery
I have an embarrasing number of tasting notes here :-)

Moderate daily consumption is a good thing!
Wineries are way fun, I love to visit the one's here in NJ with my girlfriend. Most of them here have free wine taste tests you can do. I just bought a new wine cabinet for all my wine (ok i'm a wine junkie)
