After a brief attempt at using UserLand's Radio to maintain a blog I had setup, I've given up on it. There were several problems I had with it:

  1. First of all, it was very fond of crashing. On both Windows 98 and Windows NT, I experienced a lot of random crashes. I'm really not fond of Dr. Watson.
  2. It was a fat client application. Yes, it ran thru a browser, but there is a web server component that runs on the desktop -- a desktop that must be either Windows or Mac OSX
  3. It was too large a hammer for what I wanted to do. I can see why some of the hard-core bloggers like it. But it was more than I really needed.

So at the suggestion of Jon Udell, I've begun using Movable Type (MT). It seems to be one of the clear leaders in this area. And since it runs completely server-side, I can install it on a remote server, put it behind SSL, and use it from anywhere I want. Ah, the power of the web.

Anyway, things will probably be rough going here for a few days while I shake down MT and get used to it.
