Michigan Road Trip Pictures
Scott, Tyler, and I headed to visit all of the Michigan Prout contingent during this weekend. We had all sorts of fun.
All of the thumbnails shown here are links to larger versions of the image. The larger versions have been sized to be viewable on a 640x480 display (or larger).

On Friday evening, after eating dinner and hearing Scott's formula for improving his
walking, we descended upon Kacky's classroom to eat candy and leave amusing little notes
for all her students.

In the school playground is a big, yellow, happy-face tube that we just had to get on
"film." What's remarkable about this is that it was completely dark when I
snapped this shot. Apparently the flash does a pretty good job.

Of course we had to try out the playground equipment...

If I ever decide to move to Grand Haven, I'd love to live right on the lake in some cool
apartments like these. They sit right on the entrance to the Grand Haven harbor.

Because I could get a fast little boat and cruise past my apartment all day long!

While wandering the walkway along the entrance to the Grand Haven harbor, we saw a really
big ship headed out to the lake.

As it approached, we began to realize exactly how large it was.

As it got closer, we were able to get a better look at it.

And then we were able to read the side and figure out that it was probably hauling cement
stuff.

The Saturday weather was great for hanging out on the beach. As you can see, there were a
lot of people there.

From a more sparsely populated part of the beach, you can see the Grand Haven Pier in the
distance. I make it a habit of walking the length of the pier whenever I got to Grand
Haven.

Scott and Kacky, near the end of the Pier. (Yes, I know the lighting is bad. The sun was
off to the southwest, so we should have done this the other way around. Oh well.)

And then I took my turn for a poorly lit picture. Better luck next time, I guess.

At the very end of the pier is the Lake (duh). Every once in a while a very big wave slams
into the pier and sprays everyone in the area. [Point of Trivia: This is
the place where I almost fell into Lake Michigan during the Summer of 1997 when Kacky,
Anne, and I wandered out this way.]

There are even people dumb enough to try fishing there. They inevitably get very
wet.

Standing near the end of the pier and look back toward the shore, it looks a lot like
this.

A different view of the shoreline from the pier.

As the new Gap commercial says: Kacky's Rock.

The sky was filled with kites.

Some of the appeared to be controlled by the RVs that were lined up along the beach.

There was this really cool "stacked" kite.

Some of them flew a bit lower than the rest, which meant we could actually get a decent
look at them.

And we all knew that Scott was cheap, right?

This picture, taken at about 75mph, came out pretty will when you realize that I was
trying to drive and take the picture at the same time. The cars behind us didn't seem to
be nearly as amused as we where.

Coming back from Grand Haven to Kacky's place, we ran across a little delay in traffic.
That didn't get our spirits down. On the contrary, we used the opportunity to play frisbee
on the highway, and Kacky decided to try and knock off Scott while she had the chance.
Sadly, it didn't work. He lives.

After all of our Grand Rapids and Grand Haven shenanigans, we ventured east to Okemos to
find Mike, Anne, and Mel. This was after our trip to Mongolian BBQ, so we're all kinda
stuffed and sluggish. Some of us are event a bit red from all the fun in the sun.
