comments on "The universe is trying to tell me something..."

I am in the same boat. I have lost my business with what turned out to be an untrustworthy business partner. I poured my heart, soul and time into this business it was my passion. I tried everything to save it but every single thing I tried came to a dead end. Then my husband decides this is the time he wants a divorce. In this same month period I discovered my husband has a gambling problem and gambled his entire months pay away in one night. Additionally, I found he owes many people money due to borrowing for gambling funds. We have two children. All of this a once is more than I can process at once. I feel like the universe or God is trying to tell me something. How do I hear exactly what it is so I can make the right decisions for our future?

Ruby and Python are both great languages. I would prefer Ruby over Python for one thing I hate in Python - "Indentation detects programming constructs". A space here and there interpreter starts cribbing. If you are coming from Perl background I definitely suggest Ruby over Python.

Interactive Programming Books make learning new programming language very easy. Readers can execute or edit code snippets straight out of the book. You can try free interactive programming books on both Ruby and Python at http://roorky.com. IPUBReader comes with free bundled programming books on both Ruby and Python.

Live and let live! You enjoy your life and let others enjoy theirs! I have a lifted SUV because I drive on unmaintained/unplowed roads at Tahoe in the winter and need it. If it wasn't for my kids, dogs and all the stuff I need to carry around I would have something smaller like a Subaru, but that doesn't work with my family's lifestyle!Don't pass judgement on others since you have no idea what their life is about! How about if you go with what Tahoe is about and smile, wave and say hello to people and stop being rude city people who have something to prove!

Kevin comments on "Are Dolphins Smarter Than Costco Employees?"

Ok, I've worked at Costco for quite some time so I can help with this discussion.

For one, the reason the receipts are checked is because of 2 things... 1)There are no "activated security devices" in the items to prevent inconvenience of people setting off the door alarms, etc. and 2) It's easy for someone to steal something between the register and the door, especially if they have someone with them. Honestly, the reason we check the receipts is to make sure that we don't OVER charge you or cause a loss for our products which causes trouble not only during inventory but also with our merchant partners that accommodate those low prices people enjoy. As for the particular employee you encountered, she handled the process all wrong. I've worked at the door several times and with large full baskets, you are only supposed to scan for the easily missed or over-charged items like alcohol, small products, and things hidden on the bottom of the basket. Her over-thinking wasn't entirely in vane however, because if she had been wrong, it would've gotten her and the cashier "at fault" in unnecessary trouble. Besides, marking the receipt helps prevent people from coming through again with the same items, as I'm sure you know.

I also agree with whoever said the receipt codes are hard to decipher. I've looked over plenty of receipts and for example, Cinnamon Toast Crunch with Fiber, rings up as CTC WFBR. When you are trying to hurry and scan a large receipt, it's not the easiest thing to spot.

Imran Chaudhry comments on "How to Copy a Filesystem and Preserve Hard Links in Linux"

Zhenlei Cai and others are correct about the cause of rsync with a large dataset eating memory. This is what happened to me when rsyncing two datasets with hardlinks, one of ~30G the other 130G. I left it running overnight rsyncing from HDD to USB2 external HDD and the machine gradually ate into swap until it became unresponsive. It looks like a good chunk of the data got transferred though (I deduced this by du -chs of the original data vs that on the USB HDD). The rsync settings I use are: time rsync -avh --stats --hard-links

Looks like I have to gradually do a bunch of broken rsyncs until the data is transferred. If this failed, I think cp -av --preserve=all would be the next best thing.

One other thing is that in my case the data is going onto an encrypted partition by using cryptmount.
